About Chi Yu
Chi had a passion for art at an early age, beginning with her interest in photo layouts in glamour magazines, and sketching actresses of that era. She began studying 20 years ago with acclaimed landscape oil painter, Stefan Baumann. With his coaching, her oil painting excelled and her skills developed rapidly. Baumann inspired Chi to go beyond her perceived limits, and he continues to encourage her growth as an artist as she captures love and beauty in the world in her paintings. Every year Chi publishes a calendar containing a painting for each month, and focuses on a different subject each year.
In October of 2001, Chi held her first art exhibition at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California. This was an extremely successful event incorporating more than one hundred of her paintings. Chi raised thousands of dollars that she donated to charities such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Chinese Performing Artists of America. She published her first art book featuring 100 of her oil paintings just before this exhibition.
Chi’s artistic accomplishments continue to evolve, and her recent works display both a refinement of skill as well as exquisite artistic expression.
Art Expresses the Painter 畫如其人
“Art is a reflection of who I am and what I have experienced. People who like my work, also come to know me.”
